These squat stands are made with 4×4’s as a base, which makes them a little heavier to give more stability. A miter saw or table saw makes this project easier because most power hand saws will not be able to cut a 45 degree angle on a 4×4 as it is too thick.

In this case, there were no exposed beams in the ceiling or a wall that could be screwed into and used as an anchor. I was able to find some metal framed beams in the ceiling, so I screwed a 2×4 into the ceiling to anchor the rack. I could have made it freestanding, but then the base would have to be much wider. With the ceiling anchor, I was able to keep the rack only a foot and a half from the wall and include squat hooks and a pull-up bar.
